Kalonzo Musyoka Attends Holy Mass at the Vatican, Prays for Pope Leo XIV and Kenya
Wiper Patriotic Front Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has attended Holy Mass at the Vatican in Rome, where he joined Catholic faithful in prayer for Pope Leo XIV's recovery, the Church in Kenya and the peace and unity of the country.
According to a statement shared by his political camp, Musyoka attended the religious service following an invitation from the Presidents of the Episcopal Conferences to participate in prayer and reflection.
During the gathering, the former Vice President joined other faithful in thanking God following the reported successful surgery of Pope Leo XIV. He also prayed for the Holy Father's full and speedy recovery.
Kalonzo Meets Archbishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba
While at the Vatican, Musyoka met Archbishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba of Kisumu, who, according to the statement, is leading the Kenyan bishops during their visit.
The two reportedly joined in prayer for the Pope, the Catholic Church in Kenya and the country's future. Their prayers also focused on national peace, unity and prosperity.
The meeting highlighted the role of religious gatherings in bringing people together to reflect on the challenges facing society and the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence.
Kalonzo Remembers Victims of the Subukia Pilgrimage Tragedy
Musyoka also remembered the 17 pilgrims who reportedly lost their lives while travelling to the National Marian Shrine in Subukia.
He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and the wider Catholic community, praying that they would receive strength, comfort and courage as they cope with their loss.
The tragedy has added a sombre note to the period of prayer and reflection, with the families of the deceased facing the difficult task of coming to terms with the loss of their loved ones.
His message also drew attention to the importance of supporting grieving families and standing together during moments of national sorrow.
Kalonzo to Join Ida Odinga in Bondo to Remember Raila Odinga
Following his Vatican engagement, Musyoka is expected to travel to Bondo to join Mama Ida Odinga, members of the Odinga family and other Kenyans in commemorating the first anniversary of the death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
The planned gathering will provide an opportunity for family members, friends and other Kenyans to remember the late opposition leader and reflect on his life and public service.
Musyoka's planned participation comes as the family and those who knew Raila continue to mark the anniversary of his passing.
A Call for Peace, Unity and Responsible Leadership
In the message accompanying the Vatican visit, Musyoka's camp called on Kenyans to seek God's guidance, wisdom and humility in leadership.
The statement emphasised the importance of placing the needs and aspirations of citizens at the centre of public service while promoting unity, peace and national development.
The appeal comes amid continued calls for leaders and citizens to work towards a peaceful and prosperous Kenya despite the political, social and economic challenges facing the country.
Musyoka's Vatican visit combined prayers for the Pope's recovery, remembrance of the pilgrims who died in the Subukia tragedy and reflection on the future of Kenya.
As the country remembers those who have passed away and looks ahead to the future, the message from the gathering centres on compassion, unity and the need for leaders to serve the public with humility and responsibility.
May the families mourning their loved ones find comfort, and may Kenya continue to pursue peace, unity and prosperity.
